Identifying Gifted and Talented Learners
In Vermont, giftedness is not an area identified nor served through special education services in schools; however, other states do recognize gifted and talented as an area of exceptionality and even provide special education via an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) to serve this special population of learners.
At Kingfisher Learning, we are able to identify such learners and make recommendations for home and school to support gifted and talented learners’ needs.
In Vermont, assistance is available to help schools meet the requirements of Title 16, Section 2902, which allows gifted and talented students to be served by a school’s Educational Support Team.
The Gifted Development Center in Colorado has specialized in recognizing and supporting giftedness in school and at home. They offer very useful information for parents of gifted children. They have unique expertise with twice-exceptional children (gifted children with learning disabilities); highly, exceptionally and profoundly gifted children; and gifted adults.
